Are Canadians friendly?

Let me describe what happened to us yesterday on 3 occasions.

1. We bought some stuff in a dollar store in Nanaimo, and when paying we got into a discussion with the assistant and described what we were doing etc. She was genuinely interested, wished us all the best and asked us to return if we had any questions about Canada and living here.

2. In a big supermarket and again we were asked by the assistant what we were doing and she was so excited for us. Canadians seem to be more amazed than the British at what we are doing. She wanted the www.olivebranch.co.uk website address as she wanted to see where we end up and how it goes. (I wonder if she will ever read this?)

3. We were sitting by a fire we lit in the campsite. Once again we are the only customers in the whole place. A retired couple staying in a nearby motel strolled by and said Hi, and stopped to chat. They stayed for an hour and shared some beer with us, even though it meant they missed watching the beginning of the World Curling Championships on tv!
